Mosque of Prince Abdelkader .. Boumediene idea and the gift of Hassan II

The Mosque of Prince Abdelkader in the city of Constantine, 430 km east of Algiers, is one of the most important religious and scientific lighthouses on the African continent, and a masterpiece combining Mashreq and Maghreb architecture, classified as a mirror of Algerian national identity.

 The Mosque of Prince Abdelkader, who bears the name of a military political leader who lived between 1808-1883 and qualifies as the founder of the modern Algerian state, plays a distinct role in the dissemination of forensic science and Islamic Da'wah, where it hosts throughout the year religious and scientific activities usually attended by the most important symbols of the Islamic call  Arab and Islamic world.

Since its opening 20 years ago, the mosque attracted the most famous sheikhs and preachers of the Islamic world, led by Sheikh Mohammed al-Ghazali al-Masri, Sheikh Mohammed Saeed Ramadan al-Bouti of Syria, and Sheikh Youssef al-Qaradawi al-Masri, in addition to the well-known preacher Ayed al-Qarni.  Students.

 "The construction of the mosque dates back to the early years after Algeria gained its independence," said Abdellah Boukhalkhal, dean of Prince Abdelkader Islamic University. "The decision to start construction in 1969 was made by the late Algerian President Houari Boumedienne."

Boukhalkhal added that "Boumediene made his decision after reviewing a series of designs presented by a large number of Arab and Western architects, before choosing the design presented by the Egyptian engineer Mustapha Moussa, who worked for the Algerian presidency."  Inauguration of the Islamic University of the mosque and delayed delivery of the mosque for worshipers until 1994.

 The 13-hectare Prince Abdul-Qader Mosque is classified as a unique Islamic architectural beacon because of its distinctive geometric shape.  Its location, where it can be seen from anywhere in the city of Constantine, not to mention the engineering designs that decorate it from the inside and

The mosque can accommodate about 19,000 worshipers and worshipers, as well as the external courtyard, which can accommodate thousands of people.  Sunlight through the windows of the glass blends in the spectrum, as well as the pulpit provided by the late Moroccan King Hassan II as a gift to Algeria before the opening of the mosque, which includes a Koranic school consisting of seven sections, graduating annually, hundreds of Quran memorizers, and specialists in interpretation.

Al-Haj Ibrahim, the head of the mosque committee, said that he plays a big role in the humanitarian aspect. The committee is active in collecting financial donations throughout the year, and during religious occasions, hundreds of needy and poor families are supported by giving them subsidies.  Like the orphaned children and the needy who are laid to rest, especially on holidays.

 In addition to the role played by the mosque, its Islamic University, which was inaugurated in 1984, also occupies a privileged position, with thousands of Algerian and other students from different Arab and African countries graduating annually in various disciplines related to the Islamic religion and Sharia.
