copper

brassware craftsmen have existed in Algeria since the Middle Ages and most households have copper utensils and large reception trays, commonly called sniwate.

The Algerian brassware, of very high quality, is strongly influenced by styles and patterns borrowed from Andalusia or the Ottoman Empire.  Whether it is yellow or red, copper is carved with arabesques and takes the most varied forms, in Algiers, Tlemcen or Constantine: copper sniwa, teapot, cauldron, coffee maker, couscous dish and even objects used for the toilet such etassa, the mrach  , or the traditional incense burners.
