Church of the African Lady

The most famous landmarks are the Church of the African Lady in the upper part of the capital.  It was built on top of a hill overlooking the sea with a Byzantine building that was built by the Christians of the world.

The most interesting thing in the church is the story of its construction, a real “epic” depicting how the poor associate their religion with reference to the servants who were brought with him by the Bishop of Algeria, Baffy, during the French colonization, one  called Margaret Berger.  Her grave is located in the square adjacent to the church.

The African lady today tops Algeria’s architectural and historical paintings, visited by Muslim and Christian tourists from all over the world.  The church is topped by a statue of the Virgin Mary, a large cross and a bell, and inside it sits a bronze statue of a black African woman wearing a traditional blue Algerian dress from the Magboud.  “Plush”.

The tourists are contemplating messages written and carved on their marble walls, with invitations, vows and messages of love, separation, death and illness written by the visitors, including “Thank you, Virgin, for you have healed my son”.  It also contains stories and religious figures from the Bible and statues.  An Islamic architectural character that also makes Muslims attracted to it as though they have a part of it, fascinated by the Arabic-Spanish decoration and the paintings written in Arabic and Amazigh
