Region of Aures

Huge palm grove, large irrigated areas, dams, the city has since its founding in the eleventh century by the Zibans, all made to fertilize this piece of desert. Between modern city and unspoiled medina, Biskra is today, with its orchards, its 150,000 date trees producing the famous Deglet Nour, a prosperous city. The French writer André Gide stayed there for a few months, during which he began his book "Terrestrial Foods".
